WEIGHT LOSS IN THE 21st CENTURY, AND WHY YOUR MOTHER WAS THINNER THAN YOU

Updated: Dec 1, 2021

According to a study published recently in USA Today, conducted by the Obesity Research & Clinical Practice, Millennials will be fatter than people 20 to 40 years ago even if they eat and exercise the same. The researchers concluded, after studying the data from nearly 51,000 Americans, that a person in 2006 eating and exercising the same as someone of an identical age in 1988 had a BMI about 2.3 points higher, meaning they’d be about 10% heavier. “Our study results suggest that if you are 25, you’d have to eat even less and exercise more than those older to prevent gaining weight,” Jennifer Kuk, York University in Toronto.

And now they are finally acknowledging the role that toxins play not only in our risk of diseases such as cancer, but also in our increased fat deposits as our body desperately tries to protect delicate tissue by walling off these toxins in our fat. It is also why once you start to make progress in losing weight you’ll often plateau. You see as you metabolize fat you release those toxins, in the form of organochlorides, into your system, which then interfere with your thyroids ability to function, stalling weight loss.

These toxins come from our environment, prescription drugs (esp. antidepressants) synthetic hormones (which are also in our environment as xenoestrogens) antibiotics, and artificial sweeteners all of which change our gut flora leaving us susceptible to weight gain, immune dysfunction (including autoimmune diseases) and yes even depression and learning disabilities!

With these new challenges to your health you need a more integrated approach to effectively lose weight and maintain your health. First you must have high quality nutrients available that include powerful anti-oxidants to manage the organochlorides as they are released into your system during fat metabolism. (They also help manage the daily assault from our foods, environment and pharmaceuticals.) You also require those nutrients to build healthy new cells as you body replaces itself on the molecular level every 11 months.

Another wonderful tool we utilize is an infrared sauna that is equipped for you to perform resistant band workouts while building muscle and efficiently metabolizing fat. Another wonderful thing as you work out in the infrared sauna is your sweat rate increases and 40% of that sweat is composed of toxins.

The thinking that needs to shift is as follows: You do not get healthy by losing weight. As you reclaim your health by making healthy choices and participating in health supportive activities, your fat will melt away and your weight will normalize for your healthy body.
